Raison D’être

It’s a French phrase which literally means, “reason to be.”  According to Merriam-Webster it is to be understood as “the reason for which a person or organization exists.”  Or, further, “the thing that is most important to someone or something.”

Given the turbulent religious landscape of our day and the conflicting currents even within evangelical Christianity, it’s wise for every church to regularly ask:  what is our reason for being?  What is most important?   Why do we exist?  What is our raison d’être?

A good, short, biblical statement of our reason for being at Ingleside is this

to glorify God by making disciples of Jesus Christ.

Do you hear the words of Jesus in this sentence?  In Matthew 28:19, a passage we sometimes refer to as The Great Commission, he said, “Go therefore and make disciples” (ESV).  That’s what is most important.  That’s why we exist.  That’s our raison d’être!

Welcome New Production Associate

Please join me in welcoming Eric Robbins to our staff as our new, full-time Production Associate.  Eric’s responsibilities include recruiting, training, and leading our teams of volunteers toward excellence in the sound, light, video, and stage design dimensions of our worship services.   He will have a special focus on the video components of our worship and on our TV broadcast.

Eric is a 2013 honor graduate of Truett-McConnell College in Cleveland, Georgia, with a Bachelor of Arts in Music with a concentration in Contemporary Worship.  He has served on our team at Ingleside as an intern from 2007-2010 and again from August 2013 to the present.  Eric began attending Ingleside with his family in 1996, and became a member when he was baptized in 2003.

In this role on our Worship Arts Team, Eric will report to Chris Hawkins, our Production Director, under the overall leadership of Jonathan Green, our Worship Arts Team Leader.  Please join me in offering a warm welcome to Eric and pray the Lord’s favor as he begins this new ministry.
