Where does your mind go when you hear “one a day”? My thoughts go to vitamins.
In fact, “one a day” is a registered trademark of Bayer Healthcare LLC under which they market a family of fifteen or so different multivitamin products. Bayer first introduced the “one a day” line in 1940.
The idea is simple and compelling. Take one vitamin every day and it will improve your overall physical health and wellbeing.
A Chapter a Day. In a similar way, last year I began asking everyone at Ingleside to join me in reading one chapter of Scripture a day together. I was convinced then (and even more so now!) that if we would read a chapter of God’s word together every day, it would improve both our personal spiritual health and the overall spiritual vitality and unity of our church family.
To encourage this habit, in March of last year I began to provide a short, daily email to help us understand and apply the chapter we are reading together each day.
Now, a year later more than 3,000 people have signed up and are receiving the email and reading the Scripture together each day. Each week, new people typically sign up to join us.
Sign up now. If you have not joined in this journey, you may sign up by texting the word Chapter to 22828. Or, you may sign up on our church website at www.ingleside.org.
Our Lord Jesus put it this way: “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free” (John 8:31-32, ESV; emphasis added).
Jesus said that the key to spiritual vitality and fruitfulness is to abide in Christ and to allow his words to abide in us (John 15:7).
So, if you are already in the “A Chapter a Day” journey, keep it up. Keep on abiding in, learning, applying, and obeying the word.
And, if you have not joined us yet, sign up today. You’ll be glad you did. Over time, God will use it for your good and his glory!
