On Sunday, September 13, we will launch our new, contemporary worship service. It will be at 11:00 a.m. in our Multi-Purpose Gym. So, beginning the Sunday after Labor Day, our new worship schedule will include four services as follows:
Time Musical Heart Language Venue
8:30 a.m. Traditional Chapel
9:40 a.m. Blended Worship Center
11:00 a.m. Blended Worship Center
11:00 a.m. Contemporary Multi-Purpose Gym
The teaching in each service will be the same, but in the contemporary service it will most often be by video.
Why? Though there have been many logistical questions to ask and answer as we approach the launch date, I’m convinced that the most important question to ask is: why? Why would a church offer 4 services, with 3 different musical heart languages, in 3 different venues, with 1 biblical message every Sunday? Let me offer four reasons.
Options. First, we realize that schedules (work, school, family, and travel) are now more complex and demanding than they once were. Options increase the likelihood of welcoming more worshipers.
Heart languages. Second, we have learned that people today have different “musical heart languages.” And, when worship is offered in our native tongue – our own “musical heart language” – our worship experience is more authentic and powerful. So, whether your spirit soars to the sounds of a pipe organ, hymns, and choral anthems (8:30), or with a unique Ingleside blend that includes a choir, vocal teams, a band, an orchestra, and a variety of song choices (9:40 & 11:00), or with guitar-led, band-driven contemporary songs (11:00), you can find your heart language spoken at Ingleside every Sunday.
For the sake of the gospel. Third, we are compelled to share the gospel with as many people as possible. The Apostle Paul captures our motivation: “I have become all things to all people, that by all means I might save some. I do it for the sake of the gospel, that I may share with them in its blessings” (1 Corinthians 9:22-23, ESV).
Making disciples. Finally, the bottom line is making disciples. Our goal is to make disciples, fully devoted followers of Jesus Christ – who come to worship, grow in a group, serve in the body, and go with the gospel – all for the glory of God!
I am very grateful to be part of a church that is willing to try something new. And, as always, I am confident that the best is yet to come!
