Leadership Matters
Over the past two weeks our Nominating Committee met to select new nominees who will be considered for service as Overseers and Deacons. As I left the meeting, my heart was deeply grateful for the quality and strength of the leadership God has given our church across the years.
I’m convinced that one of the reasons that we have had strong leadership is because we have a good process. It includes congregation-wide input, consideration by a Nominating Committee, personal interviews, and election by the church.
This year’s Nominating Committee, like many before it, did its work prayerfully and carefully. The spirit of the meetings honored the Lord and His Church. There was candor balanced by a concern for unity. There was seriousness appropriate to the task flavored by moments of light-hearted fun. From start to finish, the work of this committee reflected the overall health of our church family.
So, please join me in saying thanks to those who served on the Nominating Committee this year. They included: Mardi Bass, Larry Bush, Courtney Cawley, Teresa Gainey, Adam Hawk, Laura Kersey, Tim Lowrimore, Wade McCurry, Johnny Mitchell, Tracy Rutledge, Laura Sims, Brad Thompson, and Jimmy Hinson, who served as Chairman by virtue of his role as Overseer Chairman.
Over the next few weeks, the Chairman and I will be visiting personally with each of the prospective nominees. Then, biographical information about those that agree to be nominated will be distributed to the Church in mid-August. The formal election is scheduled to occur as a part of our Semi-Annual Church Conference on Wednesday night, August 27.
Please join me in praying for those with whom we will visit and for our Heavenly Father’s guidance and direction as we walk through the remaining steps in this leadership selection process.
High School Ministry Transition
This past Sunday night our High School Pastor, Adam Brown, announced that he has accepted the call to become Pastor of Student Ministries at ChangePoint Church in Anchorage, Alaska. His last day at Ingleside will be Friday, May 30.
Since August 2010, Adam has faithfully served high school students and their families at Ingleside. I am grateful for every life impacted positively with the gospel through Adam’s ministry among us, and we will send him, Connie, and their family to Anchorage with our blessing. Please join me in praying for a smooth transition for the Browns in this significant, cross-continent move.
Pastor Andy Johnson, who leads our Next Generation Team (preschool thru high school), has already made plans to ensure that our ministries with high school students remain strong during the summer. And, the search for a new High School Pastor has already begun. Join us in praying for the Lord’s direction to a new leader.
Even during times of transition, I am grateful for your “partnership in the gospel,” and I am confident that the one “who began a good work in [us] will carry in on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus” (Philippians 1:5-6, NIV).
