Do You Use the Ingleside App?

A revolution has occurred over the past 10 years.

According to the Pew Research Center, in May 2011 only 35% of adults in the United States owned a smartphone. By 2021 the number had grown to 85% (see the data here).

Not only do most of us now own smartphones, but we also use our phones now as our primary way of accessing information, communicating with one another, and managing the many details of modern life.

When you look at the worldwide data about internet traffic, in 2011 desktops were king – 95% market share for desktops versus only 5% for mobile.  Now mobile is at 58% and desktops are at 39% (see the data here).

The data merely confirms what we all sense and feel – we are increasingly living on our phones!

Against this backdrop, let me make two observations.

First, it would probably benefit most of us to decrease our screen time. Doomscrolling through social media is typically not good for us. We would be healthier in a variety of ways if we put our phones aside and engaged in more face-to-face relationships and activities. (The 2020 documentary “The Social Dilemma” is worth the screen time to see the challenge more clearly!)

Second, it is probably wise for us to use mobile technology for gospel purposes.  That’s why we rolled out the Ingleside app in November 2019.  Since then, more than 3,700 of us have downloaded the app and more than 3,200 of us are active users.

What can you use the Ingleside app to do?
.

  • Use it to watch the livestream if you are away on Sunday mornings at 11:00 a.m.
  • Use it to access the notes for each Sunday message and save them electronically.
  • Use it to register for Ingleside events and activities.
  • Use it to find and connect with a group, class, or study.
  • Use it to give your tithe and offerings.

So, if you don’t have the Ingleside app yet, download it from your app store now.  And, of course, we are always looking for ways to improve our app, so if you have suggestions, please pass them along.

We want your phone to be a help, not a hindrance, to your devotion to Christ and to your participation at Ingleside!
