Long Pastorates & Healthy Churches

In his ground-breaking book, The Purpose Driven Church (1995), Rick Warren recounts a study he made of the 100 largest churches in the United States.  He writes: “Although I discovered that large, growing churches differ widely in strategy, structure, and style, there were some common denominators.  My study confirmed what I already knew . . . :  Healthy, large churches are led by pastors who have been there a long time.  I found dozens of examples.  A long pastorate does not...

One Worship Service at 10:30 a.m. – July 4

This Sunday, July 4, we will have one worship service only at 10:30 a.m. in the Worship Center at Ingleside. In 1 Peter 2:17, the Bible says, “Honor everyone. Love the brotherhood. Fear God. Honor the emperor” (ESV). The Message paraphrases it this way: “Treat everyone you meet with dignity. Love your spiritual family. Revere God. Respect the government” (1 Peter 2:17, MSG) So, that’s just what we plan to do this Sunday as we celebrate our freedom, honor America,...

Next Steps Toward Normalcy

For the month of May.  As vaccinations increase and spread of the coronavirus in our region remains low, we plan to raise our worship capacity limits from approximately 33% to 40% beginning this Sunday, May 2. That means we will be able to accommodate 640 worshipers in each service in the Worship Center, 200 in the Chapel, and 160 in the Multi-Purpose Gym. Even as we increase capacity in each of our worship services (8:30, 9:15, and two at 11:00 a.m.), we will revise our pandemic...

A Weekend to Remember

Do you remember April 12, 2020? I do. It was an Easter like no other. Our church campus was calm and quiet. We led but one livestream worship service at 11:00 a.m. with a skeleton crew. No Saturday Easter Family Fun Day. No Saturday evening services. No delicious brunch in the Gathering Area on Sunday morning. No family pictures out on the Plaza. Our best metrics say that about 2,700 people worshipped online that morning. It just seemed strange, and we all longed for more. Were you...
