Are One of These Seats for You?

Are One of These Seats for You? Israel Biblical Study Tour, June 4-14, 2017 In the summer of 1979, I had the privilege of participating in an archaeological dig in Israel at Tel Batash, the biblical city of Timnah (cf. Judges 14).  Though the work was hard, the  archaeological dig itself was very fascinating. And, the additional touring our group was able to do throughout the land of Israel was transformative.  It forever changed the way I read and understood the Bible. Ever since...

By the Numbers

If you watched the Chicago Cubs win the World Series this week, you know that it’s possible to give a summary in a few numbers. World Series: 4-3 Game 7 score: 8-7 Game 7 innings: 10 Years since Cubs last won series: 108 The numbers are accurate and helpful.  They tell key parts of the story.  Yet, they don’t come close to telling it all. They don’t convey the sheer elation for Cubs fans, or the disappointment for their opponents. They don’t...

I hope you will join me in offering a warm Ingleside welcome to Brett Brandewie and his family as he begins his ministry as our new High School Pastor.  Brett’s first day in the office was this past Monday, April 4. If you have not met Brett yet, let me tell you a bit about him.  Brett is 28 years old and a 2008 graduate of Florida State University (B.S., psychology and economics).  In 2012, he earned a Master of Divinity degree from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University in...

What’s the Next Step?

Many of the words the Bible uses to describe what it means to be a disciple of Jesus imply movement. Consider the call that Jesus extended to his first disciples.  He often said:  “Follow me.”  To be his disciple meant leaving where you were and going with him. It’s no wonder then that life in Christ is often described in the remainder of the New Testament as a “walk.”  The Apostle Paul would write:  “Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him”...

Going with the Gospel

As I write these words, it’s almost noon on Wednesday, March 4, and I’m in Southeast Asia.  I’m part of a short-term mission team of fourteen folks from Ingleside. We are here in support of a group of frontline missionaries who live and share the gospel in some of the most challenging circumstances in the world.  The purpose has been to help provide these missionaries and their children a few days of rest, renewal, training, and encouragement that will enhance their effectiveness...
