Worship Update and Holiday Planning

In today’s blog, I want to give you (1) an update on our weekly worship gatherings and (2) our plans for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Worship Update.  We began to re-gather for in-person, on-campus worship on Sunday, June 14.  So far, so good. In fact, this past Sunday we welcomed 892 worshipers on campus.  At the same time, about 920 worshipers participated online. So, if because of your age or health situation it’s wisest and best for you to continue to worship with us...

Next Steps on the Wise Way Forward

So far, God has honored our efforts to wisely and safely re-engage in-person, on-campus ministry at Ingleside. We have deliberately taken an incremental approach.  Instead of cannon-balling off the diving board into the deep end, we have purposefully waded back into the water a step at a time – assessing, evaluating, and asking the Lord’s wisdom with each step we take. You may remember that we began regathering for worship on June 14, Weekday Preschool and Mothers Morning Out...

Celebrating and Anticipating

Most summers, we host Xtreme Week where about 700 boys and girls and 250 leaders come to Ingleside for a week of music, games, Bible teaching, missions, and crafts. For many children, it’s the best week of their summer! Though we were not able to host Xtreme Week as we have in the past, I’m delighted to celebrate an excellent “Virtual” Xtreme Week that occurred last week. A little over 250 preschoolers and children participated – some from other parts of the country! The...

Membership and Missions: Options this Month

Church membership is biblical.  As the Apostle Paul wrote to the church at Corinth:  “Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it” (1 Corinthians 12:27, ESV; cf. Romans 12:4-5). Membership is a way of saying:  “I’m committed to Jesus and to his body, the church.  You can count on me to use my gifts for the good of others in this church family.  I will worship, grow, serve, give, and go with the gospel alongside others in this church family.  I’m...

Healthy Processes, Healthy Results

Not many of us get pumped up about processes, policies, and procedures.  Yet, most of us do care deeply about outcomes and results.  The truth is that the two are usually connected—even in the life of a church! Listen to the wisdom of the writer of the biblical book of Ecclesiastes: “The wise heart will know the proper time and procedure. For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter.” (Ecclesiastes 8:5b-6a, NIV84) Eugene Peterson captures the spirit of this...

High School Ministry Expansion

God is favoring our High School Ministry at Ingleside with a new season of growth under the leadership of our High School Pastor, Brett Brandewie. As a result of the growth, our Overseers are recommending that we renovate our “Across the Street” High School Ministry space (in the Wimbish Midtown Shopping Center) at an amount not-to-exceed $670,000. This recommendation will be considered by our church at our Semi-Annual Church Conference on Wednesday, February 26, 2020, at 7:45...
