A School Year Like No Other

Across the coming month or so, we’ll see every school at every level re-start with in-person, remote, and hybrid models on the table. With most students not being in a classroom setting for almost five months now, the next four or five weeks are sure to be an experiment! You may not be approaching this coming fall like you have others. In previous years, you’ve not had to ask questions like: ... How many masks should I send with my child to school? ... What will our school...

What’s Your Next Step?

One of the great themes of this life the Lord has given us is that of progress. Consider the stages of growth. We begin as a dependent infant and move through various phases of physical, mental, and emotional development. Consider our salvation. Repenting and believing in Christ is a spark of spiritual growth, not a fizzling-out flame that leaves us in our sinful patterns. Consider our relationships. Long-term commitment where you make concerted and often difficult efforts to know a person...

Be Like Jesus – Serve Others!

In 1991, Gatorade initiated a brilliant marketing campaign featuring basketball great Michael Jordan. With an original theme song, depictions of everyday people imitating his moves, and Jordan drinking the sports drink, the commercial ended with the statement, “Be like Mike. Drink Gatorade.” Virtually every kid in America (and a few adults!) wanted to be “like Mike.” Are you aware there is a key to being “like Jesus”? It is found here: “…But whoever would be great among...

Just Take the Next Step

Sometimes when we think about the future, we are frozen because the gap between where we are and where we want to be seems so large and so daunting. The same can be true when we think about spiritual growth and development.  The divide between “here” and “there” seems so great that we are paralyzed and do nothing. So what to do?  The key is to just take the next step. When the big assignment is broken down into many smaller ones it becomes doable.  When the huge project...

Is “Missions” Biblical?

If the question is framed this way – is “missions” a biblical word? – then the answer may be surprising. A search of the King James Version of the Bible reveals that the word “missions” never appears, not even one time. In the English Standard Version, “mission” appears only once in the New Testament (2 Corinthians 11:12), and then it does not refer to what we typically understand as “missions” nor does it translate a specific Greek New Testament word.  Similarly, in the...

How Disciples Are Made

In every generation, some churches lose focus and drift from their primary mission.  So, it’s wise for us to be regularly reminded of what our God-given mission really is. The mission is stated clearly by our Lord in Matthew 28:19-20 where Jesus says to his followers: 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always,...

New Logo, New Website

Over the past few days, you may have noticed a new logo on our website and printed publications at Ingleside.  We hope you like it and will come to identify it with all things Ingleside. In fact, this new logo is not merely a new look.  It tells a story . . . a story that highlights our message, our values, and how we make disciples.  Check out the logo video here to learn the story. The new logo is also part of a complete redesign and update of our website:  www.ingleside.org.  We...

Back to School

During the first days of August, hundreds of Ingleside families will be leaving behind their summer schedules and embracing the regular rhythms of school.  Students, teachers, coaches, counselors, and administrators will be embarking on a new school year filled with opportunity and challenge.  It’s time to go “back to school.” At Ingleside, the month of August is also a time to come “back to church.”  This Sunday, August 11, all of our age-group ministries will be kicking off a...
