Be Like Jesus – Serve Others!
In 1991, Gatorade initiated a brilliant marketing campaign featuring basketball great Michael Jordan. With an original theme song, depictions of everyday people imitating his moves, and Jordan drinking the sports drink, the commercial ended with the statement, “Be like Mike. Drink Gatorade.” Virtually every kid in America (and a few adults!) wanted to be “like Mike.”
Are you aware there is a key to being “like Jesus”? It is found here:
“…But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:43 – 45, ESV)
In the spirit of Gatorade’s tag line, I would revise it and say, “Be like Jesus. Serve Others.” Serving us was at the heart of Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross. He put our need for forgiveness above his desire for comfort. He put our lives in front of his. In his service, he did what we were unable to do.
Did you know that virtually every area of ministry at Ingleside is recruiting volunteers to serve wholeheartedly? The specific opportunities to use your gifts here are too numerous to list. But could you:…
…
- Welcome a guest or drive a shuttle?
- Teach or assist in a class (for any age)?
- Offer hospitality?
- Express a musical or artistic passion?
- Do something technically oriented?
- Mentor a student or young adult?
- Coach a team?
- Build something?
There’s bound to be an outlet for you in a list like that. Though this list is not exhaustive, I can point you to one that is – this page on our website. You can browse by category and find a place to plug in. Just fill out the quick form, and a ministry leader will contact you shortly.
Around 1,300 people served this past year in various ways, and we always have open opportunities. Will you be like Christ and serve others at Ingleside? Your church is counting on you!
In the Spirit,
Executive Pastor
