Can God Really Change . . . ?

In our current Sunday morning message series at Ingleside, we have asked: Can God really change our lives?  Can he change us personally?  Our marriages?  Our families?  Our church?  Our community? If he can bring about change, then how does he typically do so?  And what will the change look like? What should we expect? As we have looked to Scripture for answers, so far we have learned three big principles. God is able to change our lives.  The Apostle Paul put it this way:...

When I Struggle to Believe

It was an unexpected conversation.  He is a granddaddy with a long history of significant involvement in the church.  The conversation would have been a surprise to most who know him. Yet, he said: “Pastor, can you help me?  I am struggling to believe.” I responded with a few questions that helped him give me more context. Then, he said again: “I am struggling to believe.  Is there any help you can give me?” If you are abiding in the Word with me (and I hope that you...

John 13 and Last Night

If you are reading the Scripture with me (and I hope that you are!), you will know that today’s chapter is John 13. As Jesus met with his disciples for supper, the Bible says that he rose from the table and . . . He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, tied it around his waist. Then he poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples’ feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. (Jn. 13:4-5, ESV) Jesus served his disciples in a...

Are We Off to a Good Start?

I was around the table at our Wednesday night fellowship meal for a few moments with a group of senior adult ladies last night and one of them asked:  “So, how is the contemporary worship service going?  Is it off to a good start?”  All were eager to hear the reply. The question.  Both the question and the answer were a source of joy for me.  The question was really more than a mere ask for information.  It was an inquiry filled with the hope and expectation that the answer...

A Fabulous Launch

Thanks so much for your prayers and partnership as we launched our new contemporary service and our new worship schedule this past Sunday, September 13. With 474 worshipers in the contemporary service and more than 2,300 worshipers overall, it was a great beginning.  In every service there was a strong sense of the Lord’s favor and anointing! Let’s do it again this week, shall we?  As we make our way toward a “new normal,” let me encourage you to keep on taking some very...

Will You Be “All In”?

As we launch our new contemporary service and our new worship schedule this Sunday, September 13, I hope you will be “all in.” No matter which service you choose, here are some very practical steps you can take to help our church achieve its full redemptive potential.  Will you be “all in”? Pray – ask God to grant favor and power in our worship services.  The Bible says: “The prayer of a righteous person has great power” (James 5:16b, ESV). Invite – your personal...

Life is Short

The infamous Ashley Madison tagline actually got it half right: life is short.  In Scripture, the book of James puts it this way: “you are a mist that appears for a little time and then vanishes” (4:14, ESV). And, of course, if life is short and this life is all there is, then to prioritize personal pleasure regardless of the consequence might make sense.  Even the Apostle Paul concluded: “If the dead are not raised, ‘Let us eat and drink [and make sexual appetites ultimate], for...

Back to School

From preschool to graduate school, by this point in the month of August virtually every school in Middle Georgia is now back in session.  And, literally hundreds of Ingleside families have now left behind the relaxed rhythms of their summer schedules and are engaging fully the more structured cadences of a new school year. So, this Sunday, August 23, in each of our morning worship services we will recognize and pray over students, teachers, coaches, counselors, administrators, and other...
