Membership Q & A

How many members does Ingleside have now?  Is our membership growing?  Is the notion of “membership” biblical?  Do you have to be baptized to be a member?  Why don’t you receive members with an altar call?  What is expected of members?  How do you become a member? These are just a few of the questions that our pastoral team and I get with some regularity.  So, let me respond to a few of them here and point to where the answers to the other questions may be found. Q.  How...

Wells You Did Not Dig

How long has it been since you have read chapter 6 of the Old Testament book of Deuteronomy?  Tucked away in this portion of God’s Word is a principle and a warning that have been echoing through my heart this week. The principle simply put is this:  God often brings blessing to our lives through the labor of those who have gone before us.  This is the way Scripture says it: When the Lord your God brings you into the land he swore to your fathers, to Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, to give...

How Disciples Are Made

In every generation, some churches lose focus and drift from their primary mission.  So, it’s wise for us to be regularly reminded of what our God-given mission really is. The mission is stated clearly by our Lord in Matthew 28:19-20 where Jesus says to his followers: 19 Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always,...

Concerts at Ingleside

As we were planning to build our Worship Center back in the early 2000s, one of our dreams was that we could host a variety of concerts that would encourage, inspire, and bless our church family and community.  Now, we can look back and see that our “concert dream” has become and still is an ongoing reality. Across the nine-plus years, we’ve had a variety of concert experiences from a wide spectrum of musical of genres: from contemporary Christian to big-band to southern gospel to...

Oh Come, Let us Worship

The call to worship is woven through the tapestry of Scripture over and over again, but nowhere more clearly than in Psalm 95.  Do you remember these words? Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation! 2 Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving; let us make a joyful noise to him with songs of praise! 3 For the Lord is a great God, and a great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the depths of the earth; the heights of the mountains...

The new logo is also part of a complete redesign and update of our website:  www.ingleside.org.  We...

The Right Time, the Right Way

Not many of us get pumped up about processes, policies, and procedures.  Yet, most of us do care deeply about outcomes and results.  The truth is that the two are usually connected—even in the life of a church! Listen to the wisdom of the writer of the biblical book of Ecclesiastes: “The wise heart will know the proper time and procedure.  For there is a proper time and procedure for every matter.” (Ecclesiastes 8:5b-6a, NIV)             Eugene Peterson captures the...
